Old Bosnian crafts from Bascarsija - filigree

Midhat Becar is a craftsman that manufactures hand made filigree jewelry in small series and quantities. If you ask him about his work and filigree making in Bosnia and Herzegovina he will say that the situation is worrisome and filigree almost entirely disappeared from our region because the market is overflowed with industrial goods from abroad that is much cheaper, but made with less quality.

We could freely say that his work is some kind artistic because filigree is a delicate kind of jewellery making from twisted threads made of gold or silver. It requires a lot of patience, knowledge, artistic approach, but also very specific tools for that kind of work.

In this series of video materials that would try to present old crafts of Bascarsija in Sarajevo through the video we will begin with Mirsad Becar and his craftsmanship in filigree. This video series is brought to us by web portal www.bascarsija.info and citizens association "Zona unaprijeđenog poslovanja Baščaršija".

More info about Midhat Becar and his work you can find on his website http://becart.ba.

We hope that you will enjoy :)
