Coppersmiths arrived in Bosnia with Turks. Their main location was in Sarajevo on Bascarsija. Even today there is a street that was named after the coppersmiths that worked there.
Right place to buy "džezva"
Coppersmiths of Bascarsija supplied all Bosnia and Herzegovina with copper dishes. They were proud with more than seventeen different products for cooking, water containers and coffee accessories.
The kettles they make was mainly used for cooking, while the special kettles called "džezva" is used for making the famous Bosnian coffee which was an integral part of all meetings and social interactions. Today we have a mass industrial production of these dishes so the job of modern coppersmith changed a little bit.
Modern handmade production
They was forced to orientate themselves toward the production of different decorative items suitable for selling to tourists. All of these stuff is handmade with a lot of care and patience. Every piece has it's own story of creation, each been given special attention and time.
