Bascarsija in Sarajevo is famous for very large number of different crafts that served people's for everyday needs. One of those needs was a need for shoes that has bean used outside but also inside the house.In recent time one kinf of that slippers become famous in the West under the name "Aladdin shoes" or as the Bosnian say - aladinke.
"Westernized" Orient
"Aladinke" are primarily used in home and ware part of woman's footwear. Slippers were used in the house or the yard, but foreigners started to wear it even in the city walking. Aladinke or Aladdin slippers become a fashion hit because they were modern, but in the same time some kind oriental.
One of the most famous Italian fashion creators Roberto Cavalli used Aladin shoes in some of his creations, but real craftsman behind the scene was Ahmed Kalajdzisalihovic, the man who owns the old shop for making this kind of slippers for years. Mr. Kalajdzisalihovic says that Mr. Cavalli's agent saw some of his work in Munich. After that Mr. Cavalli contacted him and ordered some very complex slippers that has been shipped on time and with high precision. After that initial contact Mr. Kalajdzisalihovic received some additional orders from other fashion creators and the glory of the famous Aladdin slippers was spreaded through the world.
