Ugar and Ugrić rivers on Vlašić mountain

Vlašić is a mountain located in central region of Bosnia and Herzegovina with highest peak Paljenik, 1933 meters. Vlašić is famous for it's specific kind of cheese and, more recently, by ski center Babanovac - one of the favorite destinations for winter ski sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Babanovac is a place where you can find comfortable and affordable hotels and a good starting point if you plan to ski, hike, ride mountain bike or practice any other king of some outdoor sport.

Ugrić river waterfall

In this article you will find a photo album from a hiking tour that started from Babanovac on Vlašić. Main goal of the tour was to visit beautiful and a little known waterfall on Ugrić river - one of the tributaries of the bigger Ugar river that emerge on the surface of the Earth right on the Vlašić mountain. The waterfall is some 15 meters high and located not so far from ski center Babanovac, so the visitor can combine skiing on Babanovac and hiking to this waterfall in one day tour.

As you can see on the photos there is a lot of ice on the waterfall during the winter. Ice columns are thicker than surrounding trees. It is possible to pass under the waterfall during the summer and to climb up to the top of the waterfall.

Wilderness of Ugar river

On the photos you will also see the part of the upper stream of Ugar river that is 44 kilometers long with the total descent of 1073 meters until it ends in bigger Vrbas river. Such a huge descent create a tight and narrow canyon with white and wild water. That canyon is some 17 kilometers long until the Ugar river begins to flow more calmly. Because Ugar river is located in mostly uninhabited region with no pollutants water is very clear and suitable for life of different kinds of fish of which is specifically important famous "Ugarska pastrmka" (Ugar's trout) with light silver pigmentation with small orange dots.
