Zastijenje heights is an area located between the springs of Demićka and Ulička rivers that makes it's southeastern and northwestern borders before they met with Vrbanja river. Zastijenje heights is also part of Čemernica mountain located between Skender Vakuf, Kotor Varoš and Travnik cities.

The main characteristics of this area is pastures rich with grass and surrounded by spruce and beechwood forests. Absence of large inhabited villages or cities and deep woods represent an ideal place for animals so area called Garište is a habitat rich with forest animals suitable for hunting with a permit. Highest peaks of Zastijenje heights are Dunića kape (1230 meters) and Lazi (1184 meters) with a beautiful panorama on upper area of river Vrbanja basin and villages Kruševo brdo, Šiprage and Grabovica.

Dunići - the real old village

But most special place on this heights is a village called Dunići. This village is located on 1150 meters above sea level on inaccessible plain surrounded by cliffs. Dunići is a type of village that looks like a Lukomir village on Bjelašnica mountain that is much more familiar to the tourists. What connects these two villages is the fact that both give a true picture of the old Bosnian village and the old way of life to this areas. Homes, as well as all other buildings, were built of wood in old Bosnian style of construction.

Today there lives a very little number of villagers - 30 of them, but, they main their main characteristics are a cheerful temper, modesty and hospitality as you could see on some of the pictures.

Old Bosnian breeds of cattle

Main sources of income for villagers are farming and agriculture that is practiced in the old way. In this place you can still see an examples of Bosnian mountain horse, Bosnian cow called "buša" and sheep from Vlašić mountain with a long wool called "pramenka". This village is also famous for building of old water supply system out of wood.
This remote area with well preserved old ways of life is a great location for those who would like to see and feel some real and original village spirit. There is a lot of copies of "ethno villages" that show us some old stuff that gives us a sense for old, but, here you can see and touch the "real deal".

How to get there

For those who would like to visit this village the easiest way is from Milići village that is located on the main road between Travnik - Vitovlje - Skender Vakuf.
