Cycling and swimming on Zelengora mountain

Zelengora mountain with it's lakes, pastures and planes is one of the most beautiful destinations for MTB cycling in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prove for that could be the fact that 35 cyclists attended this tour three years ago.

This was one of the first tours in Bosnia and Herzegovina that required higher level of organization. A lot of cyclists applied for ride and there was great need for good transport organization, but also, some of the cyclists ware first time on their bikes in the wild - so great deal of education was needed as well. Starting point for most of the cyclists was in Sarajevo and they packed and started on scheduled time. Morning driving to the Kalinovik was nice and passed by in jokes and fun.

Land of lakes and mountain peaks

On arrival they dismounted their bikes and ride started from Jažići village with some 25 kilometers distance to the destination - Orlovačko and Jugovo lakes on Zelengora mountain. Ride started on good unpaved road with evergreen forests that surrounds the road. The route was not complicated with just 2-3 crossroads and with some small ups and downs of the road. All of the sudden, after a ride on the beautiful pastures cyclists saw a beautiful Orlovačko lake surrounded bu high peaks from 1700 to 2000 meters of altitude. The lake itself is located on 1460 meters.

Cycling and swimming in one day

The view of the lake is a nice reward for itself but our cyclists decided to have a little more fun swimming in crystal clear water of the lake. Since the time was enough to continue the ride they decided to visit another lake of eight lakes of Zelengora mountain - Jugovo lake. This lake is not natural lake. It was created by building of the dam on the creek by local hunting warden named Jugo - so the lake got the name after him, Jugovo lake. The dam is a nice place for swimming so the opportunity is not missed.

That was the beginning of the end of this amazing tour. Our group packed their gear and headed toward the cars. This is definitely a day to be remembered!
